Displaying a beautiful beadwork band across the back of the hand, these black leather mittens are named for the mountain Ama Dablam. Located in the Himalaya range of eastern Nepal. The main peak is 22,349 feet. Ama Dablam means "Mother's necklace", as the long ridges on each side look like the arms of a mother (ama) protecting her child, and the hanging glacier is thought of as the dablam, the traditional double-pendant containg pictures of the gods, worn by the Sherpa women.
Astis leather mittens are hand-sewn in the USA from black high-quality suede leather with hand-stitched beadwork and are lined with Polartec® Thermal Pro® High Loft insulation. Working directly with a tannery in the USA, we developed a suede leather, injected with silicon during the tanning process for further waterproofing, that is extremely durable yet retains great dexterity.
As each leather glove and mitten is hand-sewn and uses natural materials, each leather mitten will possess slight variation in the look of the leather and beadwork. Astis embraces these subtle differences and views them as unique gloves more akin to works of art.
