Displaying an alluring beadwork feather across the wrist, these leather mittens are named for Mount Rolleston. Rolleston is a prominent peak in Arthur's Pass National Park on the South Island of New Zealand. It was named by the surveyor Arthur Dudley Dobson in 1864, who observed the peak while searching for a route through the Southern Alps to the West Coast gold fields. The name honors the then Superintendent of the Canterbury Province, William Rolleston.
Astis leather mittens are hand-sewn in the USA from high-quality black suede leather with hand-stitched beadwork on the wrist and are lined with Polartec® Thermal Pro® High Loft insulation. Working directly with a tannery in the USA, we developed a suede leather, injected with silicone during the tanning process for further waterproofing, that is extremely durable yet retains great dexterity.
As each leather mitten is hand-sewn and uses natural materials, each leather mitten will possess slight variation in the look of the leather, beadwork, and fur trim. Astis embraces these subtle differences and views them as unique mittens more akin to works of art.
- Note that the short cuff mittens run a little smaller and narrower than the long cuff mittens
