Displaying an winsome beadwork band across the wrist, these leather mittens are named for Mount Katahdin. Katahdin is the highest mountain in the U.S. state of Maine at 5,267 feet. The mountain was named Katahdin by the Penobscot Indians, which means "The Greatest Mountain". Katahdin is also the northern terminus or the Appalachian Trail.
Astis leather mittens are hand-sewn in the USA from high-quality black suede leather with hand-stitched beadwork on the wrist and are lined with Polartec® Thermal Pro® High Loft insulation. Working directly with a tannery in the USA, we developed a suede leather, injected with silicone during the tanning process for further waterproofing, that is extremely durable yet retains great dexterity.
As each leather mitten is hand-sewn and uses natural materials, each leather mitten will possess slight variation in the look of the leather, beadwork, and fur trim. Astis embraces these subtle differences and views them as unique mittens more akin to works of art.
- Note that the short cuff mittens run a little smaller and narrower than the long cuff mittens
