Displaying a fun beadwork band across the wrist, these brown leather mittens are named for Krakatoa. Krakatoa is a caldera in the Sunda Strait between the islands of Java and Sumatra in the Indonesian province of Lampung. In 1883 the volcano had a blast so loud it could be heard 1,900 miles away in Perth, Australia.
Astis leather mittens are hand-sewn in the USA from brown high-quality suede leather with hand-stitched beadwork on the wrist and are lined with Polartec® High Loft insulation. Working directly with a tannery in the USA, we developed a suede leather, injected with silicone during the tanning process for further waterproofing, that is extremely durable yet retains great dexterity.
As each leather mitten is hand-sewn and uses natural materials, each leather mitten will possess slight variation in the look of the leather, beadwork, and fur trim. Astis embraces these subtle differences and views them as unique mittens more akin to works of art.
- Note that the short cuff mittens run a little smaller and narrower than the long cuff mittens
