Displaying a stunning beadwork band across the wrist, these brown leather mittens are named for Mount Vesuvius.  Vesuvius is a somma-stratovolcano located on the Gulf of Naples in Campania, Italy.  Vesuvius is best known for its eruption in AD 79 that led to the buring and destruction of the Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum.  Vesuvius has erupted many times since and is the only volacano on the European mainland to have erupted within the last hundred years.  Today it is regarded as one of the most dangerous volcanos in the world because of the population of 3,000,000 people ling nearby, making it the most densely populated volcanic region in the world, as well as its tendency towards violent, explosive eruptions.

Astis leather mittens are hand-sewn in the USA from brown high-quality suede leather with hand-stitched beadwork on the wrist and are lined with Polartec® High Loft insulation. Working directly with a tannery in the USA, we developed a suede leather, injected with silicone during the tanning process for further waterproofing, that is extremely durable yet retains great dexterity.

As each leather mitten is hand-sewn and uses natural materials, each leather mitten will possess slight variation in the look of the leather, beadwork, and fur trim. Astis embraces these subtle differences and views them as unique mittens more akin to works of art.

  • Note that the short cuff mittens run a little smaller and narrower than the long cuff mittens
